Pinheyschna meruensis (Sjöstedt, 1909)

Type locality: Mt Meru, Tanzania

Diagnosis

Male is similar to P. waterstoni by (a) stem of black mark on frons round and surrounded by pale area like bull’s-eye; (b) Pt 2.5-3.5 mm, under 8% of Hw length; (c) membranule grey, almost without white at base; (d) anal triangle of 2 cells, although occasionally 3; (e) genital lobe short and triangular, apex pointed. However, differs by (1) being restricted to Kenya, Tanzania, Uganda and Katanga; (2) genital lobe straight, rather than curved with apex twisted downwards. [Adapted from Dijkstra & Clausnitzer 2014]

Habitat description

Streams in open landscapes. Especially faster sections, usually with rocks and/or dead trunks or branches, and probably overhanging branches. Inferred to occur from 1500 to 2300 m above sea level, but possibly down to 700.
