Diagnosis
A variable but unique species, male is identfied by combination of (1) large size, Hw 38-55 mm; (2) thorax uniformly dark, at most with short pale antehumeral stripe; (3) S3 and S7 with conspicuous pale basal rings; (4) dorsum of S10 flat and bare, without peak bearing cone; (5) cerci stout and straight. Habitat description
Mostly standing waters, but also rivers, large lakes and possibly streams and flowing channels in marshes, in open landscapes, open areas in forest or shaded by gallery forest. Often with coarse detritus, a sandy and/or soft (like muddy) bottom, and probably emergent vegetation. From 0 to 1900 m above sea level, but mostly below 1300.
